TP Link Archer C5400 Router Reviews:
AC5300-level Wi-Fi performance requires more central processing power than most routers are blessed with. TP-Link made the Archer C5400 with a dual-core 1.4 GHz Broadcom ARM processor and no fewer than three co-processors to funnel data around its internal data pathways.
One co-processor is allocated to deal with the 2.4 GHz band, while the two 5GHz channels each get a co-processor to handle their data flows too. TP Link Archer C5400 leaves the ARM SoC as the master controller, with plenty of cycles to deal with USB ports, LAN ports and other tasks.
Having eight antennas to data split streams over enables the 2.4 GHz range to get 1000Mb/s of bandwidth through 4 streams @ 1024-QAM, where the 5GHz channels each offer 2167 Mbps or 4 streams @ 1024-QAM x 2, theoretically.
As we’ve mentioned in other reviews, the problem in supporting that amount of bandwidth is that the client hardware is usually linking to Ethernet-connected NAS servers, and gigabit Ethernet is less than half of 2167 Mb/s.
TP-Link Archer C5400 by making the router capable of channel bonding two Ethernet ports to double the throughput. Assuming you have a NAS box with dual-gigabit LAN that is also channel bonding, you can double the throughput.
As with most good routers these days TP Link Archer C5400 provides SAMBA shares on its two USB ports, but this is one of the few where they can also be utilised for Print Serving.
All this hardware was in the original V1 model of the Archer C5400, but the V2 revamp also provides some new things that aren’t in the earlier design.
Anudeep –
I’ve owned a lot of routers, including other routers by tp-link. This ac5400 is by far the best, and the only one with enough power and performance to consistently deliver 220 mbs throughout my entire 1800 sqft home. I highly recommend this router if you have at least 100 mb/s download speed from your internet provider and a moderate size or larger home. If your connection speeds are lower, you’d probably be fine with a cheaper ac1750 model. The trick is to connect it in a central location along an inner wall and up high on a shelf, at least 6ft above ground level, that will give you the greatest range from whichever wireless router you decide to purchase.
