TP Link Archer VR400 AC1200 Wireless MU-MIMO Router

TP Link Archer VR400 Modem Router Reviews:

Internet connection
The Tp-Link Archer VR400 is a Wi-Fi modem router that represents a good compromise for users who do not have special needs, but who nevertheless want to be able to enjoy a relatively fast and stable network.
Tp-Link Archer VR400 offers good compatibility with all common Internet link standards, from ADSL, ADSL2 and ADSL2+, to VDSL and VDSL2, suitable for those who have fiber optic connections of the FTTC type, the last part of the connection being covered by the old copper pairs. It is thus also a good compromise for those who are wanting to switch to fiber optics and who want to avoid additional investments.
The only standard not supported, being is the case with almost all products on the market, is FTTH, with which fiber optic cables reach inside the house.

Network connectivity
From the point of view of wireless connections, the Tp-Link Archer VR400 is also able to provide very positive performance thinking about its price range. It supports the 802.11 a/b/g/ n/ac Wi-Fi standard, one of the most advanced ever, meeting a total max speed of 1200 Mbit/s. It is a dual-band model which can benefit from both 2.4 and 5 GHz frequency bands, ensuring more efficient distribution of data traffic.
The wired links are less advanced: the LAN sockets are updated to the Fast Ethernet standard, while only the EWAN port supports the Gigabit Ethernet standard. Most wired connections can therefore reach a maximum of 100 Mbit/s, compared to 1000 Mbit/s for the latest models.

Antennas
The Tp-Link Archer VR400 has three antennas located outside the body. They can be oriented in the preferred direction, but they are not removable, so it must be considered that if they are damaged, they can not simply be replaced. Aside from that, they need considerable space, and the advantage of can orient them is now rendered unnecessary by the Beamforming technology, which this model is also geared up with, which enables intelligent distribution of the wireless signal to the connected devices.

As for the connection speed, it is possible to reach a maximum of 300 Mbit/s on the 2.4 GHz band, while it is possible to reach a max of 867 Mbit/s on the 5 band. GHz. These values are generally sufficient for all basic online activities, from web browsing to social media management and content streaming, even though very high definition enthusiasts may experience some slowdowns.

Hardware connection
From a wired point of view, the Tp-Link Archer VR400 offers basic performance, although it may not be suitable for users finding a model suitable for complex operations. There is a DSL socket, three Fast Ethernet LAN ports, an EWAN Gigabit Ethernet port and a USB 2.0 port. In general, the data transfer rate is therefore very limited. Nevertheless, it should be considered that the USB port is not only compatible with external hard drives and printers, but also with the keys of 3G or 4G mobile networks, a very rare feature among devices of this range. This aspect may be particularly interesting for all users who do not have a very stable home connection and who prefer to have an alternative solution in case of disconnection.

Other functions
Like the other models of the same range, the Tp-Link Archer VR400 offers many security functions. It has a pre-installed firewall and VPN for secure remote connection, offering the ability to set various settings for parental controls and create a secure network for guests.
There is a total lack of features linked to telephony management: this model will therefore not be able to support the VOIP function now provided by all telephone operators, a significant limitation for many users.

Data traffic management can be regulated through QoS, which supports you to prioritize a particular device in network operation. This function is very valuable for those who have several devices connected at the same time and who need to avoid, for example, lags during online gaming sessions or when watching a movie in streaming.
Finally, it should be remembered that you can also control the functions of Tp-Link Archer VR400 modem router through the application for Tether mobile devices.

Final:

This low-end Wi-Fi modem router is compatible with ADSL/2/2+ and VDSL/VDSL2 links and supports the 802.11 a/b/g/ n/ac wireless standard, offering performance similar to that of high-end products. of range. Tp-Link Archer VR400 has three external antennas, equipped with Beamforming and capable of reaching a max speed of 1200 Mbit/s. As for the hardware connections, there is a DSL socket, three Fast Ethernet LANs, an EWAN Gigabit Ethernet and a USB 2.0.

Even though not updated to the latest standards, it remains compatible with external hard drives, printers and keys for 3G/4G mobile networks, a rare feature among products in this range. As for additional features, there are good options in the area of security (VPN, firewall, parental control, guest network), as well as for data traffic regulation (QoS). There is no possibility to manage telephony. Tp-Link Archer VR400 is therefore suitable for users looking for a device at an affordable price, compatible with generally advanced standards.

We purchased this TP-Link Archer VR400 V3 AC1200 Modem Router to replace our BT smart hub. It had been causing some issues & various engineers from another well known telecommunications company didn’t rate it. We chose this router as it was relatively inexpensive to other options , a newer version of the model & we didn’t need more for our needs. Thanks to the informative Installation guide. The router was simple to install. And connecting it up to the internet via the TP-link sites “Quick Setup” was an easy step by step job.
